2 chest tombs and 2 headstones. Late C18. Chest tombs: sandstone
with siltstone inscription and end stones. Headstones: limestone.
All 4 monuments within single cast iron railing. Two chest tombs
flanking 2 headstones. Chest tomb to Richard Phillips on south,
died 1770. Moulded base, quarter balusters at each corner and
decorative tablets at either end, that on east depicting a unicorn
and angel and 2 figures, that on west a heraldic shield,
inscriptions on both sides. Chest tomb to John Phillips on north,
died (?) 1796 matching tomb to Richard Phillips but with
inscription on south side only and no decorative tablets. Both
chest tombs similar to the William Harbidge monument (q.v.)
possibly by Francis Ballard. Headstone with segmental head left of
tomb to John Phillips to Mrs Grave Wells, daughter of Richard
Phillips died 1787, inscription within outline of open front of
open book with one side blank. Headstone to Ann Phillips, daughter
of Richard Phillips, died 1776. Segmental headed stone with urn in
relief at top, festoons of fruit to either side and urns at bottom.
Railing formerly with urn finials at corners. (Edith Brill,
Cotswold Crafts, P76-87, 1977).
