Column monument, dated 1827 on plaque on west face, restored 1895. Rock-faced
rusticated sandstone with polished granite plaque. Battered column, about 50
feet high, with coved string at about 10 feet and pyramidal stone block cap.
Plaque records erection by Robert Campion Esq of Whitby, and bears inscription
in praise of Captain James Cook 1728-1779.
