Mid-C18. Stucco. Slate roof. Stone coped gables with moulded kneelers. Two
storeys. Five bays, of which central one breaks forward and is crowned by pediment:
C19 sashes with triple keystones on first floor. Modern shopfront.
Interior. All front rooms retain C18 plaster moulded cornices: one on ground floor
has modillions, and the central joist has guilloche ornament, probably C19. As
cornices in ground floor rooms break forward over chimney breasts, it is possible that
the original chimney pieces survive behind modern pegboard. One first floor room has
a contemporary chimney piece with shouldered wooden architrave and late C18 cast iron
grate. This room also has a plater keystone set above door, with a female mask,
perhaps C19.
Staircase is mid C18. Alternately turned and spiral-fluted balusters, moulded
handrail with spiral curtail, and fret-patterned panels below each tread end,
continued to form a frieze below landing.
