Public house and attached cottage and outbuilding. Late C18; extended 1828;
further alteration in late C19. C18 build of dressed limestone in front and
squared limestone at rear; extension hammer-dressed sandstone in front and
squared limestone to rear; pantile roof with brick stacks. Painted cast-
iron railings. Probably 2-cell, gable-entry plan originally, with right
range added, and cottage. 2-storey, 2-window front to C18 build, with lower
2-storey, 2-window extension at right, and 2-window cottage and outbuilding
at extreme right. C18 build: painted tooled quoins. 16-pane sashes with
painted stone sills and flat arches of tooled voussoirs with keystone.
Stepped eaves course. Coped gables and shaped kneelers. End stacks. Inn
extension: C20 doors to left and right of 2 squat 4-pane sashes with painted
tooled sills; similar windows, renewed, on first floor. Painted tooled
lintels to ground-floor openings. Mounting block beside door to left.
Cottage: board door to left of 2-light, 16-pane horizontal-sliding sashes,
all with painted lintels and painted tooled sills: similar windows to first
floor without lintels. Outbuilding: painted tooled end quoins. Door of 6
recessed panels with 12-pane sash to left. Stepped eaves course on
extension. Centre left and right-of-centre stacks. Railings: 2 sets of
area railings approximately one metre high, raised on low stone plinth, with
turned standards and egg finials.
