Rectory. 1813. Designed and built by Sydney Smith (1771-1845). Brick in
Flemish bond, pantile roof. Hallway entry with canted bay to rear right,
and service wing to left. 2 storeys, 3 bays to main range. 2 storeys,
4 bays to service wing. Main range: wide glazed door in wrought iron porch
flanked by sashes with glazing bars. first floor: deep unequal 15-pane sash
flanked by unequal 9-pane sashes. Hipped roof, ridge stacks. Service wing:
two 16-pane sashes with 6-pane fixed window to right. First floor: 16-pane
sashes with 6-pane fixed window to right. Ridge stacks. House of Sydney
Smith, wit, founder editor of the "Edinburgh Review" and parson at Foston
from 1808 to 1829.
