Pinfold. C18 or earlier, restored 1935. Gritstone. Square on plan.
Enclosure formed by walls approximately 1.3 metre high, with flat coping.
Slatted gate between shaped posts to east. Stone tablet to left of gate
inscribed:
HIS MAJESTY'S MANOR OF GOATHLAND
TO COMMEMORATE THE SILVER JUBILEE OF
H.M. KING GEORGE V.
THIS TREE WAS PLANTED BY
CAPT. R.SMAILES, J.P. C.C.
ON THE 6TH DAY OF MAY 1935.
Stone tablet to right of gate records the names of the Committee for the
preservation and upkeep of the commemorative chestnut tree and pinfold.
