2 houses, one with shop. Early and late C18 with early C19 frontage, later C19
north extension. Coursed, herringbone-tooled sandstone, the extension coursed
rockfaced sandstone; Welsh slate roofs, brick and stone stacks. L-plan: 2 gable
ends of original house and adjoining extension facing road. Left (older) bay 2
storeys and attic, right 2 storeys. In left bay 2 steps up to 6-panel door and
6-pane shop window of early C19 type, probably reproduction. Above it a small
early C19 cash window (missing intermediate bars) and smaller attic casement.
Stone gable coping and base of cut-down stone chimney. Right (extension) bay
has 4-panel door at right and small sash at left. Large first-floor canted
oriel with lead roof and sash windows. Stepped-in kneelers support gable coping
with ball finial on plinth. Stone chimney in valley. House entrance on left
return which looks early C18 with more roughly tooled stone on plinth, and very
irregular, possibly raised to 2-storey height in later C18. Central C20 glazed
door. Early C19 flanking sashes, lost intermediate bars, under extended keyed
lintels. 2 similar windows in right bay. Rebuilt brick ridge stack. Cockpit
Cottage is the return of the L, set back at left: probably late C18. 2 storeys,
1 wide bay. In right-hand corner a 6-panel door under overlight with glazing
bars. Similar windows, one on each floor at left, with flat lintels. All
windows have projecting cills. Lead roof ridge; coping on kneeler and cornice-
banded stone stack at left.
