Farmhouse. Late C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber-framed
rear wall, rendered magnesian limestone, brick stacks and cast-tile roof.
Probable original central lobby-entry plan with outshut to rear. 2 storeys,
3 cell plan. Central entrance a part-glazed door. Bay windows to ground
floor have plate glass sashes, otherwise casement windows. Ashlar kneelers,
end and rear stacks. Right gable has chamfered mullion windows to basement,
first floor and in gable. Interior still retains many original features
including huge chamfered bressumer beam to living room. Open well staircase
with remains of splat balusters and wall panelling with fluted frieze.
Further very steep back staircase. Plank and muntin panelled room to first
floor. Plank and muntin panelling to attic staircase. Several original
doors including 6-panel, 10-panel and plank doors, the latter with iron
latches. First floor shows 2 jowled posts to rear wall. Roof has 2 levels
of trenched purlins and queen struts. A rare survival of a C17 house in
this area included primarily for its interior features. North Yorkshire and
