House. C16 front range with C19 brick facing, C16 north west (rear left) range,
with later alterations. Timber framed. Front face gault brick with red brick
dressings, other faces weatherboarded. Red plain tiled roofs, that to rear
hipped. 2 red brick chimney stacks. 2 storeys. Red brick quoins and central
band. 4 window range of vertically sliding sashes with glazing bars, those to
first floor with gauged brick arches and keystones, gables over. Off centre
left round headed doorway. Board door, top light with glazing bars. Front range
interior has exposed close set heavy timber studs, arch braced cambered tie
beam, top plates, ceiling beams and bridging joists. C18 arches to landing.
Vertically boarded and panelled doors, some with original hinges. Cast iron
fire surround in bedroom. Stair turret with later stick baluster staircase.
The taller rear range retains its original double side purlin roof of 4 bays.
The pair of huge principal storey posts, with moulded jowls to ground floor,
support the principle rafters, these with bases as wide as the storey posts and
diminishing to apex. They are notched and moulded to fit the purlins and
collars. Arched brace to wall. Large end chimney stack. Plank and muntin rear
door. Moated site. A building recorded here c.1210. Sometimes known as
Tryndehays.
