Barn. C18. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed mainly with corrugated iron, with some handmade red clay tiles on the south east midstrey. Thirteen bays aligned north west-south east, with two midstreys each of two bays to south west. Early C19 slate-roofed lean-to extension to north west of north west midstrey, later C19 slate-roofed lean-to extension between the midstreys. Large C20 open lean-to shelter tonorth east. Minor repairs to the walls in red brick in Flemish bond. Hardwood frame with primary straight bracing and clasped purlin roof. The four north west bays and midstrey were built first, with arched braces to the tiebeams and to the wallplate across the midstrey, and without a ridge. The remainder was added later in the C18, with bolted knees to the tiebeams and to the wallplate across the midstrey. The north west lean-to extension is shown in the tithe award of 1841 (Essex Record Office, D/CT 258). Associated with a farm of 600 acres until c.1914. In 1985 in use for bulk grain storage.
