GV II
House. Mid C17. Timber framed and plastered with peg tile roof. Of 2 storeys
with attics and of 'L' plan form. The roof is hipped down to form a catslide
over an open C20 loggia at the north end. At the south the roof hips to return
as ridge of wing with a gable to the rear. Central rebuilt ridgeline stack with
attached diagonal shafts. Front has central 3 storey porch/stair tower with
gable and bargeboards. The entrance door is of oak with an oak frame. On the
first floor is an oriel of C19 casements with the central 2 lights canted out in
'V' plan form on an oak bracket. Windows generally are C19 casements with
opening lights with small panes over a transome. The main lights have a single
central horizontal glazing bar. Either side of the porch on the ground floor is
a projecting rectangular bay window of similar casements and that to the south
has a canted centre. Flat-roofed dormer and minor stack on south facing roof
slope. Typical but good quality timber frame, with unjowled posts and
elaborately stop chamfered spine beam. RCHM 4.
