House, latterly partly post office. Probably late C17 with early C19 addition and
mid C19 alterations. Rendered, probably over cob and stone. Gable-ended C20
asbestos slate roof of C17 range and C20 gable-ended Welsh-slate roof over early C19
addition. Red brick end stacks with C17 and C19 ranges.
Plan and development: C17 three-room and cross passage plan, with ground falling to
right. Central room (hall) with axial stack (now truncated above roof) at its higher
left-hand end, inner room to left with end stack and unheated lower room to right.
Early C19 one-roomed addition to left (with higher eaves line). Right-hand end
room of C17 range divided longitudinally when it was converted into post office,
probably in the mid C19. Staircase probably inserted at the rear of this end at the
same time. Two storeys.
Exterior: Three-window front to C17 range; mainly late C19 and early C20 two-light
wooden casements. C19 four-light former shop window to right. Doorway to right of
centre window with C20 boarded door. C19 four-panelled door to left of former shop
window. Early C19 addition to left has a sixteen-pane glazing bar sash to each floor
(probably later replacements of early C19 windows). Sealed boarded door to right.
Rear probably C18 first-floor small-paned 2-light wooden casement to left.
Interior: Only C17 range inspected. Central hall has open fireplace with mid to late
C19 surround and mantelshelf. Matchboarded dado. Old cupboard to right-hand wall
with old strap hinges. Jambs of front window continue down to floor level. C19
matchboarding to entrance passage. Right-hand (lower) room with rough spine beam.
Left-hand ground-floor room has C19 fireplace with cast-iron grate and tiled reveals.
Rest of interior not inspected.
