Farmhouse, stable and barn with byre, a public house in C20, now a private
house. Dated and inscribed on internal doorway quoin A.D. 1707; inscription on
reused stable lintel A. & I.D. 1711 and rear extension dated and inscribed on
window lintel I.D.1732; later barn and byre. Roughcast walls on chamfered
plinth, with V-jointed quoins and eaves cornice on house. Graduated greenslate
roof with coped gables and kneelers; roughcast chimney stacks. 2 storeys,
3 bays and rear 2-bay extension, with right single-bay stable under common roof
and left barn with right-angled byre, also under common roof. House has sash
windows in original painted stone surrounds. Stable has doorway with inscribed
Tudor-arched lintel. Barn has cross-passage doorway with stone surround over
which is part of an earlier shaped and carved lintel. Large plank doors in
flat-headed cart entrance. Plank door in stone surround in byre. Interior has
original features including early C18 stone-surround doorways but could not be
examined closely at time of survey. See RCHM, Westmorland, 1936, p.222.
