House. Early C19 for the Senhouse family. Calciferous sandstone ashlar with
eaves cornice, string course, blocking course and angle pilasters, on squared
plinth. Graduated greenslate roof with ashlar chimney stacks. 2 storeys,
9 bays. Double panelled doors and overlight with side lights, all within fluted
tetrastyle Doric porch. Sash windows with slender glazing bars in stone
architraves; off-centre 2 bays within full-height pilasters. Interior has
panelled shutters to each window. See Transactions Cumberland & Westmorland
Antiquarian & Archaeological Society, new series, lxiii,pp298-301 and Hudleston
& Boumphrey, Cumberland Families & Heraldry, p299, mentions a weathered date
stone of 1665 with Senhouse coat-of-arms, which seems to be incorporated into
the later structure.
