House, dating from 1637 with early C18 and later additions. Wet-dashed rubble
walls. Graduated roof projects beyond the gables, stone mid and end chimneys.
2½ storeys, 6 bays overall (eastern bay is blind). 'T' shaped knocker to
studded, planked door in chamfered stone surround with cornice. Single sash to
left and 3 sashes to right. 5 sashes to 1st floor. 3 reduced-height sashes to
top floor; upright rectangular panel with latin inscription, initials, and 1719
date between top-floor sashes above door. All sashes to front elevation have
early C18 glazing bars. Internally, pantry to north end has initialled 1637
datestone in wall. Kitchen has ingle-nook fireplace. Window-cases on ground
and 1st floors have panelled shutters and seats, some with drawers under. Early
C18 fully panelled room to rear at south end has concealed alcoves with
drop-leaf tables (to either side of C20 fireplace), and corinthian cornice;
front room to south has dado panelling and alcove. Main stairs have cut string
with turned balusters, fluted newel posts, and walnut inlay to top of ramped,
square handrail; servants stairs have closed string with turned ballusters and
ramped square handrail. Both stairs are oak. Original doors survive
throughout. Some early C18 fireplaces survive on top 2 floors. Roof has 4
upper cruck pairs.
