Farmhouse. Circa 1820, with few later alterations. Slatestone rubble with granite
dressings and quoins. Hipped slate roof with ridge tiles. Axial stack with brick
shaft to left and front lateral stack with brick shaft to right.
Plan: Single depth plan; in the main range there are two rooms to left, the kitchen
to left and a dining room to right, heated from back-to-back fireplaces from the
axial stack. The stair hall is to right, and a parlour to end right, heated from the
front lateral stack. The entrance front is at the right side; there is a central
entrance hall, with one room to rear right in a wing, heated from an end stack.
Along the rear of the house is an integral lean-to of one storey with loft,
containing unheated dairies.
Exterior: The garden front is 2-storey, asymmetrical 3-window front. At ground floor
to left are two C19 20-pane sashes with cambered stone arches and keystones. At
first floor to left are two C19 16-pane sashes with cambered stone arches and
keystones. To right there is a large round-arched stair light set under a cambered
stone arch; this is a late C19 12-pane sash with margin glazing and radial glazing
bars; C20 window below. The right side is the entrance front, symmetrical 3-window
front. First floor has three C19 16-pane sashes with cambered stone arches and
keystones. Ground floor has similar 16-pane sash to right and left and central C19
panelled and glazed door with C20 greenhouse attached to centre. The left side has
C20 brick porch with C20 double half-glazed doors. At the rear, the wing to left has
hipped roof. The outshut has 2-light 8-pane casement at ground floor, with hipped
dormer above with C19 16-pane sash. At the right side of the outshut there is a C19
16-pane sash with cambered brick arch at first floor; ground floor has 4-panelled and
glazed C19 door concealed by a small C20 lean-to.
Interior: The stair hall has a tight open-well stair with stick balusters and moulded
handrail, columnar newels. The kitchen has slate paved floor; fireplace rebuilt.
There are two dairies to rear, with slate floors and slate shelves. The kitchen has
a straight stair along the rear of the room.
