Farmhouse with attached wall and gateway. Early-mid C19, with few C20 alterations.
Rendered stone rubble. Hipped concrete tiled roof. Stack at the left end with
rendered shaft. Axial stack to right with rendered shaft. The attached wall is in
slatestone rubble with granite ashlar capping; gateway with granite ashlar piers.
Plan: Double depth plan; there are three rooms in the front range, with entrance set
off-centre to left and principal room to front right and left of the entrance. There
is a service room to end right. The stair hall is to rear of the entrance passage,
Service rooms to rear, the kitchen heated from a back-to-back fireplace from the
axial stack. The wall is attached at the left side of the house, and extends about
50 metres in a serpentine plan, enclosing the garden at the front of the house. At
the end of the wall there is a gateway with piers.
Exterior: 2 storeys, a nearly symmetrical 3-window front. All windows are C19 12-
pane sashes with cambered arches; the bay to right has 12-pane sash at ground floor.
There is a central porch with 2-light casements at the sides, pilasters and blocking
course, with C20 glazed outer and inner doors. The left end is blind. The right end
has C19 plank door with overlight to right and C19 16-pane end is blind. The right
end has C19 plank door with overlight to right and C19 16-pane sash at ground floor
to left. At first floor there is a C19 12-pane sash to left and to centre. At the
rear there is a C19 12-pane sash and 12-pane sash with sidelights lighting the
kitchen; 12-pane sash to end right. At first floor to left there is a C19 12-pane
sash and C20 single light and 12-pane sash; tall late C19 margin-glazed sash lighting
the stair and 12-pane sash to right. All windows with cambered arches.
The wall is about 2 metres high; at the house end, there is a 2-centred arched
doorway with plank door. The gateway at the west end has a pair of square plan
ashlar piers on plinths, about 3 metres high with pyramidal caps; there is a
slatestone segmental arch set between the piers, over C20 wooden gates.
Interior: Not inspected but may retain good plain features of the C19.
