1/95 Higher Denzell Farmhouse
- II
Farmhouse. Mid - late C19 with some C20 alterations and additions. Slatestone
rubble with stone dressings. Slate roofs with ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable end
stack to left.
Plan: The farmhouse is an unusual asymmetrical building; there is a 2-storey block
to left, and a 3-storey block to right, like a tower, with a 2-span roof with a
stack at each end with brick shafts. At the right end there is a single storey wing,
probably for service, originally heated from a rear lateral stack. C20 single storey
addition to front left.
An idiosyncratic Gothic design.
Exterior: The 2-storey block to left has a single storey C20 addition to front; at
first floor level there is a structure like a midstrey, with open pointed arches at
the side and hipped roof, C20 3-light window inside. 2-light window to right and
left, with rusticated rubble pointed arch over. Buttress to right and left with
pierced pointed arch in the buttress to left. 2-light casement at ground floor to
right. To right is the 3-storey block; this has a small casement at ground floor, 3-
light casement at first floor with 4-centred rubble arch and triple lancet at second
floor, the central light taller. The single storey block to end right has 3-light
window with segmental arch at ground floor; loft over with 2 tall gabled dormers,
each with casements. The gable end to right has a loading door with segmental arch.
At the rear there is random fenestration; the stack behind the single storey block
has been truncated.
Interior: Not accessible.
