Pair of attached houses with shops. Late C18 - early C19, with alterations of late
C19 and C20. Brick; pebbledashed at ground floor, slate-hung and painted above.
flipped scantle slate roof. Axial stack with brick shaft.
Plan: Each house is of double depth plan, with one room to front and rear and central
stair well. In circa late C19, a shop was inserted at the ground floor to front of
each house. Each house has the doorway to left and the front room to right.
Exterior: 3 storeys, nearly symmetrical 2 window front. No 4 is to left and No 6 to
right. No 4 has a recessed half-glazed door, with panelled reveals and panelled
overlight, with pilasters and cornice. Large plate-glass window in eared architrave
to right. No 6 has a panelled and glazed door with overlight, pilasters and cornice;
large C19 6-pane shop window to right with panelled stall riser, fascia and cornice.
At first floor there is an C18 12-pane sash with sidelights to left and C19 canted
bay to right with 4-pane sash and sidelights. Second floor has two C18 9-pane sashes
with sidelights; modillion cornice. The right side is in painted brick at ground
floor, first and second floors slate-hung. Ground floor has blind window, 6-panelled
door and 16-pane sash, with 8-pane cellar light. First floor has two 16-pane sashes.
Second floor has 12-pane sash and 16-pane sash. Single storey C20 addition to right
with window. The rear is slate-hung, with sash at first and second floor.
Interior: No 6 retains a dog-leg stair with moulded handrail, columnar newels and
stick balusters. Rear room at second floor has fireplace with C19 cast iron grate.
