4/19 The Kings Arms
GV II
Public house. Circa early C18. Stuccoed walls, some brick. Steep hipped scantle
slate roof with gabled roof dormers and C19 crested ridge tiles. C18 modillioned
eaves cornice. Brick stacks over rear wall, left and 2 stacks over side wall right.
Plan: 2 rooms with cross passage leading to central stair between and lower 1 room
plan service wing set back on the right. Rear entrance hall right of main stair for
separate access to service wing (now 1 room).
Exterior : 2 storeys plus attic. Originally symmetrical 3 window front with central
doorway plus 1 window front of C18 service wing set back on right. Keyed segmental
arches over original front openings (flat arches to left hand side wall). Doorway
and window left of doorway remodelled and embellished circa early C20 when gabled
porch was added and canted bay window with central gable was inserted to an enlarged
window opening. The horned sashes with more glazing bays to the top sashes probably
date from about the same time. C18 16-pane 2 light casement with wide glazing bars
to front of service wing, right.
At the rear is a C18 12-pane arched stair sash.
Interior has original dog-leg stair with balustrade boarded over. First floor and
roof structure not inspected.
