Description

MARAZION FORE STREET, Marazion
SW 5230-5330
5/17 Graystones and adjoining cottage,
including garden walls at the front

GV II

House and cottage, probably originally 1 house. C17, remodelled in the C18. Granite
and killas rubble walls, dressed granite lintels, slate sills. Scantle slate roof
with gable ends. Brick chimney over left hand gable.
Plan: overall irregular U-shaped plan of 3 room range at the front with 1-room plan
service wing at right angles to the rear at either end plus a 1-room plan wing
returning left from the left hand service wing. Possibly originally a 3-room through
passage plan then extended at the rear in the C18.
Exterior : 2 storeys. Overall 5 window south front of 3 window front house, left,
and 2 window front cottage right. There are clear signs of remodelling probably in
the C18 particularly to the first floor and there is a reset C17 chamfered granite
mullioned window head or sill used as quoin in the left hand corner. The house has
roughly central doorway with old 4-panel door and overlight; the cottage has doorway
on its left with C20 door. The windows are circa early C20 horned sashes.
Interior not inspected.
Probably C18 granite rubble garden walls at the front of a tapered-on-plan forecourt
with partly dressed granite copings and jambstones to the gatepiers and dressed
granite steps. The gateways align with the doorways.
