- to front
II
Farmhouse and garden wall to front. Probably early C18. Laced stone rubble masonry,
rendered and painted on front elevation and slate hung on left hand side. Cement
washed scantle slate rdof. Granite ashlar end stacks with moulded granite caps and
rear lateral stone rubble kitchen stack.
Plan: Double depth plan of unusual arrangement for such a date. Central entrance
leads into wide stair with C19 stair and with large room (hall) on right and smaller
room (parlour) on left, both heated by end stacks. Large kitchen to rear right,
heated by rear lateral stack, and smaller dairy to rear left. Adjoining the rear
wall, to left of centre between the kitchen and dairy is a granite winder stair
poviding access directly from the kitchen to the first floor.
Exterior: Two storeys. Symmetrical 3-window front. Central chamfered granite 4-
centred arch with curved diagonal stops. C19 plank door. Flanked by two C19
hornless 20-pane sashes with hoodmould above. Three C19 16-pane hornless sashes on
first floor. In the right hand side is a probably reset granite chamfered 4-centred
arch which has been partly blocked and has had a window inserted to light the
kitchen. In the rear elevation are two 2-light granite mullion windows on the ground
and first floor with an outshut to rear right.
Garden wall to front of stone rubble and granite.
Interior: Wide stair hall with C19 stair. Hall on right has a large fireplace with
chamfered granite surround, the jambs with curved diagonal stops. Small chamfered
granite surround to fireplace heating parlour on left. Kitchen to rear right has a
blocked fireplace, deep thin bowtell moulded floor-joists and rising from the left
hand wall a fine quality granite winder stair. Within the dairy to left, the space
below the stair forms a large niche, possibly to contain a salting trough, the outer
corner with a granite pier, possibly to provide extra support for the stair.
First floor not inspected.
