The Cornish Choughs Public House

Public house. Probably later C18; altered. Coursed granite rubble with
quoins, modern pantiled roof. Double-depth plan. Two storeys and 5 unequal
bays; the 3-bay left half, which is symmetrical, has a central doorway
protected by a small porch with monolithic jambs mounted on low walls
and a simple monolithic pediment, two 16-pane unhorned sashed windows at
ground floor and 3 above, all with raised sills and splayed lintels; the
right-hand half has a central doorway with segmental head in a splayed
lintel, a 2-storey canted bay to the left with 12- and 8-pane sashes, and a
bow window to the right and a 16-pane sash above this, with a cambered
lintel Gable chimneys, and a ridge chimney at the junction. Rear not
inspected. Interior: rear room at left end has large stone fireplace with
clockwork spit mounted over the mantel worked by weights in a built-in
cupboard to the left, (etc.). History: said to have been used as staging
post for packhorse drivers carrying tin ore to Hayle.
