Pair of semi-detached houses. Said to have beeen built c.1900 by first
manager of South Crofty Mine (Carn Brea CP) when New Cook's Kitchen
Mine was sunk. Granite rubble brought to courses, with granite quoins,
sides and rear rendered and rear wing slate-hung; asbestos tile roof with
rendered brick chimneys. Double-depth halls-adjoining plan, each house
single-fronted but with small side wing and rear extension. Two storeys
and 2+2 bays, symmetrical; central coupled doorways enclosed by a large
rectangular joint porch, two bays to the front and one to the sides, with
pilasters which carry small pairs of inverted scrolled brackets to the
cornice, 2 large basket-arched windows in the front, with glazing bars and
coloured margin panes, and matching glazed double doors and narrow
windows in the sides; 4-pane unhorned sashed windows with exposed boxes,
quoined surrounds and decorative cast-iron openwork window boxes. Hipped
roof with side-wall chimneys. Short single-storey wing attached at each
side. Rear has inter alia round-headed stairwindows. Interior not inspected.
