House at end of row. Late C18. Portland ashlar front, coursed
and squared elsewhere, tile roof. A symmetrical front to
central staircase, 4-room plan.
2 storeys and attic, 3 windows; 2 small 2-light hipped dormers
above 12-pane sashes in moulded stone architraves. Central
6-panel flush door under a plain transom light in fluted
pilasters and frieze with rosettes and small cornice. The
plinth is almost concealed by later paving, alternating
V-joint quoins, moulded cornice, rendered blocking-course,
coped parapet and saddle-back coped gables to kneelers (but
the rear slope coped in brick). Brick gable stacks. The plain
right gable end has 2 small lights to the attic, and the rear
has a small 3-light flat-roofed dormer above two 12-pane
sashes, and a larger central 132-pane sash to the staircase.
To the left a C20 wing.
INTERIOR: has a fine open-well dogleg staircase with landing
and winders, with stick balusters to Doric newels and a
stripped handrail; a small length of balustrade returns to the
top landing. To the rear, under the landing, the original
plank and batten door. Interior has been much modified, and is
linked at the first floor with a late C20 range along Hope
Street.
