Farmhouse. Circa mid C18. Painted rubble and cob walls with slatehanging to first
floor of front. Wooden lintels and slate sills. Ripped asbestos slate roof sweeping
lower to rear. Scantle slated lean-tos at either side and adjoining gable ended
building at rear right (north east). Brick chimneys over side walls, left-hand one
with 2 flues and right-hand one, rendered, with 4 flues.
Plan: 2 equal sized front rooms with through passage between leading to stairwell and
pantry behind left-hand room and kitchen behind right-hand room, plus lean-tos at
side walls left and right and 2-storey barn to rear of left-hand lean-to.
2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window south front. Central doorway with 4-panel door,
later top-glazed, and 3-paned overlight. Shallow open-fronted gabled porch, the roof
having been removed. Shallow circa early C19 granite buttresses with dressed granite
copings to extreme left and right. Hide window openings with original 3-light
casements with 8 panes per light and thick internally ovolo-moulded glazing bars.
Lean-to at left with 2 latticed wooden ventilators to side and front, further lean-to
at right. Rear has doorway slightly left of middle and mid floor stair window
opening with C20 window. Otherwise old casements with original wide 3-light
casements, at ground and first floor left, with wider 9-paned centre lights and 8-
paned sidelights. Ground floor right is circa late C19 replacement 2-light casement
and first floor right is probably original 12-pane 2-light casement.
Interior partly inspected, is little altered with most original carpentry and
joinery including 2-panel doors, window shutters and original open-well L-stair with
first landing over back doorway. Stair has closed moulded string, column-turned
balusters and moulded handrail landing over square newel posts.
This is a good example of a small C18 farmhouse with an unaltered double depth plan
with integral rear service rooms and stairwell; also notable for having so many
original windows.
