Millers house and mill. C17 or earlier, remodelled in the C19 as 3 houses, and now 1
house. Painted slatestone rubble walls with oak lintels or shallow brick arches.
Grouted scantle slate roof with large rubble stack to gable end, left, large lateral
rubble stack to rear of right-hand room and smaller later rubble chimney over gable
end right. Lean-to at either end with C20 roofs.
Plan probably originally 3-room cross passage plan with room beyond hall to right,
now within lean-to, remodelled in the C19 as watermill with accommodation to first
floor and extended to rear to accommodate mill machinery. Parlour, left (west) then
became a separate 1-cell house and the hall, to right of present (and probably
original entrance position) became another single-cell house. Finally C20
remodelling of mill as lean-to and further lean-to added at left (west) end.
2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-window south front plus 1 window single-storey lean-
to at left and 1-window single-storey wider lean-to at right. Circa early C19
hornless 16-pane sashes to main front and right. 2 doorways grouped towards middle
with right-hand one blocked. C20 glazed gable ended porch with central doorway in
front of left-hand doorway. Further doorway to left of mill front with circa early
C20 top-glazed door with marginal panes.
Round-headed arch with wide straight chamfer survives reused as window head to right-
hand (east) end, probably the original door head.
Rear has circa early C19 12-pane 2-light casement to first floor middle with
surrounding walling rendered. Large lateral stack adjoins small rubble lean-to,
within which can be seen corbelled first floor chimney breast to left of stack.
Interior not inspected but said to have no early features visible. Mill retains
some heavy timber work for machinery and there is reused chamfered stone fragment
built into right-hand gable.
A rare survival in this area of a C17 building with some original external features.
