TL 60 17 HIGH RODING THE STREET
4/2 Ashtree House
GV II
House, c.1600 or earlier. Timber framed, part plastered, part weatherboarded,
roof part thatched, part tiled. 2-storey block of 2 bays at right-angles to
street, with internal stack in NE side, c.1600. Single storey block with
attic to NE, and single-storey extension beyond. C18 lean-to at rear. On
ground floor, one early C19 sash window, 3 C20 casement windows and 2 plain
doors. On upper floor, one C20 casement window and one gabled dormer with
C20 casement window. Roof of 2-storey blqpk half-hipped and thatched,
remainder gabled and tiled. Very little framing exposed internally. 2-storey
block has jowled storey posts, one curved tension brace trenched inside studs
visible in upper front wall, axial beam and common joists stop chamfered.
No access to roofs. Single-storey block with attics undatable on evidence
visible in January 1983. RCHM 14.
