Farmhouse. Circa early C18, remodelled and extended in the late C18 and again in the
C19. Painted slatestone rubble with dressed arch stones to front and wooden lintels
to rear. Hipped dry Delabole slate roof sweeping lower to front, left, over outshut.
Brick chimneys over side wall right and over original side wall towards left and
possible original ridge axis position, and with further shaft attached (roof
originally probably swept lower to rear as first floor rear lintel positions
suggest).
Plan originally probably symmetrical with 2 equal reception rooms flanking central
passage leading to central stair between narrower rear service rooms. Extended to
left (west) in the C18 (map evidence) by double depth bay and outshut to the front of
it, and further extended probably in the C19 by large lean-to at right (east) end.
2 storeys. Originally symmetrical 5-window front with central doorway. Now original
front partly obscured by projecting 1-window lean-to left. Flat arches over original
openings. Window opening over door and those to left of doorway are in their
original positions but second from left first floor window opening is blocked.
Original openings to right of doorway are blocked and pier of masonry between
openings removed to inserted wide windows, now with tripartitie horned sashes with
glazing bars, C20 door with 6-pane overlight. 18-pane sashes to ground floor left of
doorway and C20 single-light casements over, 12-pane horned sashes to outshut left,
and C20 window to lean-to right.
Rear has circa early C19 16-pane 2-light casements to ground and first floor left and
20-pane 2-light casement to stair position, near middle of original wall length, all
with crown glass. Blocked doorway between, and further original window opening to
ground floor right of stair with large buttress to each side. Other openings later
or altered.
