House. C17, remodelled mid C18 with C19 and C20 alterations. Rubble, rendered,
slate roof with front lateral stack.
This appears to be the passage and hall of a 2 or 3 room and passage C17 house, the
former lower end to left. The entrance is directly into the remaining room, with an
inserted stair to the rear of the former passage. The hall, to right, is heated by a
front lateral stack. The walls seem to have been raised to 2 storeys in the C18 or
C19 remodelling.
2 storeys and attic, ground floor has porch bay projecting to left with C18 4-
panelled and glazed door, 2-light casement above at first and 2nd floors, smaller at
2nd floor. Lateral stack to right, with 4-pane sash to ground floor right and at
first floor, dormer above with 4-pane sash.
Interior: Ground floor room has 5 chamfered cross beams with intermediate beams of
later C19 date; to rear left, boxed winder stair with slender turned balusters and
moulded handrail. At first floor, 2 rooms to front, 4-panelled doors, room to left
has vertical panelling. Stair rising to 2nd floor with similar balusters and
columnar newel at landing. Room to right at 2nd floor has 2-bay roof with one row of
purlins, one heavy principal rafter and rounded tie-beam at partition between 2
rooms, one rounded purlin; these appear to be re-used ship's timbers.
