Description

SX 45 SW MAKER-WITH-RAME GARRETT STREET (west side),
Cawsand

9/146 Brick House
2.8.79

GV II

House. Circa 1750 with windows of mid C19. Red brick in Flemish bond, slate roof
with gable end stacks. Plan appears to be entrance to right side to passage with
unusually large room to front left; presumably double depth.
3 storeys on plinth, symmetrical front except that doorway is to right. 4 windows,
all 4-pane sashes with gauged brick heads, doorway to right has 6-panelled fielded
door with panelled cheeks and soffit, reeded surround, overlight with decorative
wrought iron. Band courses of 3 courses of brick, pilasters to sides and modillion
cornice. Pintels remain for C19 external shutters to ground floor windows.
Interior: Not accessible at time of survey (January 1986) but is likely to have fine
internal features, such as panelling, fireplaces and staircase. This appears to be
largely unaltered, and is one of the finest houses in Kingsand and Cawsand.
