Technical college, 1929/30 by G.R. Dawbarn; and S. Easten (Newcastle),
builder. Portland ashlar, with granite plinth, and marble and granite door
surround. Welsh slate roofs. E-plan, with short 2-storey rear middle wing.
Restrained Classical style. 2 storeys and attic, 3+5+3+5+3 bays. Central
3-bay entrance with renewed glazed doors deeply recessed in broad plain
surround; small renewed windows flank opening. Renewed sash windows, in
shallow 2-storey shouldered-headed recesses with vertically-channelled
aprons between floors. Attic storey has similar windows and plain sill
band. Hipped roof with roof lights over centre, and deeply-overhanging
eaves with curved brackets and moulded coved cornice. 14-bay right return;
15-bay left return, the 2 right end bays blind on ground floor. INTERIOR:
altered, but retains 2 dogleg staircases with closed string and plain
masonry balustrade with curved-topped handrail.
