Memorial clock, c.1900. Cast iron. Column with 4 engaged shafts and shaft
rings, common moulded base and enriched foliate capital supports cornice and
pedestal. Die has clock faces in moulded surrounds, and enriched spandrels.
Ornate cresting between bud finials at angles of pedestal. Shallow hipped
roof has flat top, scrolled balustrade, ball-and spike finials at angles,
and crocketed segmental trusses forming open crown cover with similar
finial. Bell suspended from crown. Deep tapered and chamfered-stepped
octagonal plinth with ornamental panels. Presented to the people of
Middlesbrough by Thomas Sanderson J.P.
