SJ 57 NE DUTTON C.P. TRENT AND MERSEY CANAL

4/39 Dutton Stop Lock

Stop Lock, 1777. Stone walls to lock chamber; timber lock-gates,
double at north end, single with bar replaced in steel at south end.
There is a negligible fall through the lock which was designed to
overcome the slightly differing water levels in the Trent and Mersey
and (to the north) Bridgewater Canals.
