Methodist Church, mid C19 for Rowland Egerton Warburton. Brown brick
in English garden wall bond; grey slate roof. Simple rectangular
chapel with small service wing at right angles, south. Double doors,
each of 3 bolection-moulded panels, in recessed round-arched opening;
2 stone steps; recessed sash of 30 panes with painted square stone
lintel and projecting cill to each side of door. Round-arched
small-pane fixed light in west end. One sash, as on entrance front,
at rear with gabled service wing right. Two round-arched small-pane
fixed lights in east end.
Interior plastered; complete contemporary furnishing, all of pine.
Dado 2 panels high; 6 fixed pews to each side of aisle, the rear 3
tiered; rail to dais at east end with turned balusters and chamfered
posts - the central portion curving out in front of minister's desk
which has shaped panels and end-posts terminating in ornate turned
knobs; round-topped back-board on wall behind desk.
A good example, all of a piece without and within, probably influenced
in design and workmanship by the (then young) Rowland Egerton
Warburton, who contributed to its erection.
