3/14 Wards End Old Farm

II

Formerly farmhouse now house: late C17 with C20 extensions and
alterations. Coursed squared buff sandstone rubble. Kerridge stone
slate roof and 2 plastered chimneys. Originally gable entry 2-room
house now long rectangular plan. 2-storey 3-bay north front to
original house. Windows are a mixture of 2 2-light, a 3-light and a
4-light tall chamfered stone mullions, 3 under rubble hood moulds.
Similar windows in south front (one in gabled half dormer) and in west
gable. Extensions to left and right in keeping.
Interior: timber-framed partitions with wattle and daub infill.
Chamfered ceiling beams with flat stops and a fire beam and heck
arrangement. Parts of original staircase with flat serpentine
balusters and a square newel. Simple oak panelled cupboards in
stairwell. 4-board original front door with wooden latch.
