Gamekeepers house, formerly Gate Lodge. c1755 with later additions
and alterations of c1870. Red brick having timber framed first floor
with rendered infill and plain tile roof. Two storeys, originally
only one and originally being in the form of a rectangular block with
a canted bay window to one side but now having added wing to north
west. Entrance front: projecting stone plinth. Door to centre with
2-light casement windows to either side with ashlar sills and wedge
lintels. Jettied timber framed first floor with considerably jettied
projecting central gabled bay supported on angle brackets and forming
porch to door below. Central 3-light casement window to projecting
bay which has richly decorated bargeboards. Later C19 addition to
right at which time the Lodge was turned into a gamekeepers house.
Left hand reveal: canted bay to ground floor and three-light first
floor casement window. Decorated cusped framing to gable and richly
decorated bargeboards. Rear: canted bay to right with later addition
to left. Adjoining the house and projecting south eastwards from the
left hand reveal are two rows of iron railings with spear heads which
connect with a gate screen of wrought iron railings and which have two
square rusticated ashlar gatepiers with pyramidal caps and iron
finials above these. Double gates between showing some Art Nouveau
influence and similar wickets to either side.
