GV II
Farmbuilding. Mid/Late C18. Red English garden wall bond brick with
ashlar dressings and corrugated asbestos roof. Entrance front: stone
plinth, thirteen bays symmetrically disposed. Slightly projecting
central three bays and projecting 3 bay gabled wings to right and left
ends. Central slightly projecting cambered-headed doorway with
timbered gable above (a late C19 addition). Pigeon loft entrances
above at right and left of gable each with 3 arched openings and
projecting gable above. To left is a ground floor window of 3 x 3
panes (later insertion) with a circular pitch eye above with moulded
stone surround. To the right is a C20 opening with cement; lintel. To
left of the centre are two bays with blank walling to ground floor and
two cambered headed openings above, the right hand one being a pitch
hole with door, the left hand one a window of 3 x 2 lights. To the
right are two bays with cambered headed pitch holes with doors to the
first floor and two stable doors to ground floor with a small cambered
headed window to the right of each door. The lateral 3-bay wings each
have a central recessed archway, the right hand one containing an
inserted C20 window, to either side of which are windows of 3 x 4
panes. The right hand opening of the left hand block now containing a
doorway. First floor in each case has central square pitch hole with
pitching eyes to either side with moulded stone surrounds. Gables
above each are timber framed (a late C19 alteration). To the centre
of the ridge is a louvred bellcote with a shingle roof, louvred lower
stage and lead finial to summit. The ranges to either side of the
three central bays would appear, from the brickwork, to have formerly
been open at first floor level forming a hay barn, as is the case at
the rear.
