House, with service wings converted as separate accommodation. Dated 1827 on rear
rainwater head, with some later alterations, including additions to service wing.
Built for William Foster of Lostwithiel. Slatestone rubble, with front and sides
faced in granite ashlar. Service wing partly in brick. Hipped slate roof with
granite ashlar stack at each corner and deep moulded eaves cornice.
Double depth plan with 3 principal front rooms facing the garden, entrance to left
side. Entrance leads to wide hall to rear, with principal rooms to front and service
rooms to rear, stair well to rear centre. 2-storey service wing to rear right and
left.
2 storeys on plinth, 2:1:2 bays, centre bay recessed, all ground floor windows tall
4-pane sashes, all first floor windows 16-pane sashes. Left side of 4 bays, at
first floor all 16-panes sashes, ground floor has 3 tall 12-pane sashes, 2nd from
left a wooden Ionic portico, doorway with round arch and panelled soffit, double
panelled doors with fanlight with splayed glazing bars. Attached to left, 2-storey
service wing in slatestone rubble with end bay in brick. First 3 bays have two 16-
pane sashes and central 12-pane sash at ground and first floor, brick bay has ground
floor 16-pane sash and glazed door; hipped roof with 2 stacks at end. Granite ashlar
ridge stack. Right side of 3 bays, with tall 12-pane sashes at ground floor and 16-
pane sashes at first floor. 2-storey service wing to right, of 3 bays, with 16-pane
sashes and central 12-pane sash at ground and first floor. The 2 rear wings form, a
narrow courtyard to rear; the rear of the wings have 12-pane sash at ground floor and
16-pane sash at first floor, varied windows and doors to inner sides. Rear of main
range rendered, with tall 12-pane sash lighting stair.
Interior 3 front principal rooms all have 6-panelled doors and shutters to windows,
plaster cornices. The rooms are drawing room, library and dining room; the drawing
room to end right has marble chimneypiece with colonettes, library also has marble
chimneypiece. Stair well has open-well stair with moulded handrail.
