PAUL TRESVENNACK
SW 42 NW
5/26 Tresvennack Cottage, including
- front garden walls and gate
GV II
Small farmhouse including front garden walls and gate. C18, extended circa early C19
and eaves heightened slightly when last re-roofed possibly at the same time. Granite
ashlar front (original part), otherwise granite rubble with granite dressing.
Grouted scantle slate roof sweeping lower over rear outshut (formerly a lean-to).
Brick chimneys over gable ends. Evidence that right-hand gable end originally had
granite copings. Cast-iron ogee-section gutters.
Plan: Originally a 2-room plan house with cross passage or lobby entrance between
the rooms. Later C18 or early C19 a lean-to was added at the rear to provide pantry
and probably dairy. At some time, probably circa early C19, the left-hand room was
widened to the left, the eaves and the lean-to were heightened. C19 outbuilding set
back on left.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Overall regular 3 window east front. Original granite ashlar
part of front on the right is an originally symmetrical 2 window front with (blocked)
central doorway; original left-hand window opening is now a doorway and this opening
and the window opening over have been reduced in width. Taller ashlar lintel course
over the ground floor openings. C20 door, circa early C20 6-pane horned sashes.
Interior: Not inspected.
Rubble walls surround irregularly shaped garden at the front. Gateway is aligned
with present doorway of house. Gate-piers are roughly hewn granite monoliths.
Simple C19 wrought-iron gate.
