Birchall Old Bridge
II
Road bridge (now disused). Early C19. Red brick with ashlar
dressings. Single span. Rustication to the lower courses of ashlar
which cease at the level of the springing of the arch and are replaced
by brick. The central round-headed archway has brick voussoirs and an
ashlar hood-mould. There is a projecting ashlar band below the level
of the parapet which is of ashlar and has a coping of cambered section.
The retaining walls to either side curve forward slightly and terminate
in square piers which project slightly. One half of this bridge lies
in the civil parish of Hatherton (q.v.).
