Hotel. Late C18/Early C19. Plum Flemish bond brick with slate roof
and ashlar dressings. Three storeys. Entrance front: 5 bays
symmetrically disposed. Moulded ashlar plinth, band at level of first
floor window sills and moulded cornice to top of wall. To either side
are canted bays which have continuous bands at the level of the ground
and second floor window sills. The central window of these bays are
of Venetian form with heavy wedge lintels rising to arches at the
centre. The central lights are of 3 x 4 panes and the lateral of 1 x
4 panes. The windows to the angles are of 3 x 4 panes with wedge
lintels. The first and second floor windows are similar. Between is
a central doorway with moulded surround and band of flutings to the
lintel and a pediment over. Set above a double flight of 5 steps with
moulded treads. Windows to either side of 3 x 4 panes with wedge
lintels. Three similar windows to first and second floors. To the
right is a coachway with first floor above joining this to the Market
Hall (q.v.).
