3/26 The Cottage.
17/4/1978 II
House, late C16 and C17, altered. Oak frame partly rebuilt in
rendered brick on partly exposed sandstone plinth; graded grey slate
roof. Late C16 cross-wing left of 2 storeys has gable with
herringbone struts. C17 long wing right has some small framing in
upper storey at front and end gable and almost complete at rear with
arch braces beneath eaves and in right gable. Rebuilt lateral chimney
on each wing. Doors and windows renewed. Late C20 rear wing, in
keeping.
Interior. Much of the internally visible oak frame survives in the
cross-wing, including the roof structure of unwrought timbers. 2 beams
in long wing with slightly hollowed chamfers.
