Farmhouse, circa C16. Partly remodelled in mid C18. West wing rebuilt in 1860s
and dairy and kitchen wings added circa 1870s and early C20. Rubblestone, slate
hung in centre range on front (south). Coursed stone with moulded plinth to C19
range on left and rubblestone range on right. Slate and asbestos slate roof with
gable end to projecting wing on left with brick stacks on left. Central range
with gable to left and hip to right with brick stack. Gables to rear projecting
wings and to right.
Plan much altered. Hall and cross passage retained in C16 range. Possibly the
remains of a 3 room and cross passage plan with service wing rebuilt. 2 storeys,
4 window asymmetrical south front. Central C16 range which owner believes to have
been reduced from 3 storeys to 2. Open porch on left, circa mid C20 erected by
present owners. 4 painted mahogany columns supported a moulded C19 cornice.
Reused dressed granite used in base. C20 glazed door with glazing bars. To
right, double C19 12-pane sash without horns. Above, replacement 12-pane sash on
left and 4-pane sash to right. To left, in gable end of C19 range, large mid C20
3-light casement under granite lintel with brick jambs. Granite string course
above. Double 12-pane sash to first floor beneath segmental arch with hood. To
right, in late C18 extension, 4-pane casement to ground floor and 4-pane sash
above.
Anterior: C16 range with fine C16 fireplace on right. Flat 4-centred granite
arch with heavy roll mould without stops. Projecting key, unmoulded, possibly
later. Fringle and cloam oven. Cross passage to left of C16 central range with
covered timber screen on right of cross passage. Possibly covered plank and
muntin screen. Upper floors not inspected. Much dressed granite in the
surrounding area including mullions and lintels. Cut stone with roll mould
embedded in south corner of C16 range.
Tempellow was barton farm to the manor house of Lanrest, from the mid C17 until
the mid C20, it was owned by the Harris family.
