4/103 United Mines, Engine House
- at SW 746414 SW
GV II
Roofless beam engine house. Circa mid-late C19. Killas and granite rubble with
granite ashlar facing to bob wall and dressed granite quoins, jambstones and bonding stones. Brick arches and brick upper stage to chimney. Rectangular single-cell plan with thicker bob wall to south and clasping round chimney to north west corner. 3 storeys over basement, but now roofless and floorless. All stone and brick walling survives to its original height (repaired and repointed in 1983). Bob wall, south, has round-headed granite arch over doorway. Other openings have round-headed brick arches. North gable end has central opening to each floor. One to ground floor is larger. Chimney has brick collar near top.
This classic engine house has been thoroughly repaired as an industrial monument.
