Farmhouse. C16 origin, C17 alterations, panelling dated IH/1639, C19 and C20
alterations and additions. Limestone rubble, rendered, pantiled roof with brick
ridge stack, roof ridge slightly higher to left of stack, raised coped verges and
former gable stack to left, double Roman tiled wing, 2-room plan, C19 stair in
former cross passage, possible originally open-hall house. South front of
2 storeys and 2 windows, ground floor has 4-light stone casement with ovolo
mullions, king mullion and hood mould to left, first floor left similar 3-light
casement; central C19 gabled porch with glazed door, ground and first floor right
C19 2-light casement with hood mould. Right return has hood mould remaining from
former 4-light window at ground floor left, central first floor 2-light casement
with stone ovolo mullion and hood mould, similar single light at attic level;
attached single storey C19 wing, door and glazing under eaves. Left return
attached to barn. Rear (on road) not rendered, has blocked door to right of
ridge stack, ground floor has small 2-light casement, C20 window and 3-light
wooden casement with timber lintel; first floor has small 2-light casement with
timber lintel, small C20 light, 3-light C19 casement with timber lintel, small
blocked light to right, straight joint to barn to right; single storey wing to
left has two 2-light C20 windows. Interior: front left room has fine plasterwork
ceiling with thin ribs, fleur-de-lys and flowers, carved wooden screen along rear
of room with frieze, probably formerly extended further, cut through when passage
was formed; room to right has narrow-chamfered beams. At first floor, door
frames to left ovolo-moulded and stopped.
