House. c1720. Irregular Flemish bond brick with tiled roof.
Three storeys and basement, 7 x 2 window bays, giving a central
stair hall and flanking reception rooms, two rear wings, the
resulting yard enclosed in C19. Ground floor raised over basement.
Central 3 bays broken forward and defined by stone rusticated
pilasters. Entrance raised over 8 steps, channel rusticated
doorcase with stepped radial voussoirs, 8-panelled door with
fanlight. Either side 18-paned round headed sashes in gauged brick
arched openings with keystones. Stone pediment over first floor
containing oeil de boeuf, the lower member extended as cornice over
the 2 flanking window bays each side. Similar windows to upper
floor and side bays. Tall attic storey with round-headed openings
over side bays, one blind. Coved cornice, and roof hipped. Side
elevation has narrow sashes, 2 panes wide, some blind and central
stacks linked by arch at head. Roof has 2 parallel hipped pitches.
Rear wing of 2 bays, 2 storeys, each with lateral stacks and twin
diagonal shafts.
Interior: Hallway with arched stair with quarter landings in hall,
3 turned balusters to each tread and simple brackets. Panelled
dado. Stair continues for full height. Drawing room to right has
fielded panelling and contemporary chimneypiece. Dining room to
left of hall also with panelling. Similar fielded panelling in
main bedrooms on first floor.
