1/48 Heygate Farmhouse
GV II
Farmhouse, now house. Dated 1682 (?) over door; altered-and extended. Coursed
magnesian limestone rubble, tiled roof with brick chimneys. Linear 3-cell
lobby-entry plan. Two storeys, added bay on left. Main range: doorway at
junction of 1st and 2nd cells, has chamfered surround and large rectangular
lintel, a square stone over this crudely inscribed (?) 6 I H 82; 3 side-sliding
sash windows on each floor, all with glazing bars, the lower ones perhaps
lengthened and the upper ones with stone sills and heads. Stone gable copings
with kneelers, a chimney on the ridge, almost in line with doorway, and another
at the right gable. Single cell addition at left end, of 2 slightly lower
storeys, with small sliding sash at ground floor and larger one at 1st floor.
Rear altered and of less interest. Interior: housepart in centre has stop-
chamfered firehood bressummer (cut short at left end for inserted staircase),
and exposed joists; at 1st floor, some evidence of earlier fenestration in
different positions; common rafter roof with some curved struts.
