Group of 3 raised tombs. c1691, 1715 and 1718. Ashlar. Stone slabs on
raised panelled bases in a row. Tomb to left to "Mr. Henry Greathead of
Gildersome" who died 5th July 1718. Highly decoratively-carved stone, one
of the finest in the graveyard. Sunken channelled pilasters with Ionic
capitals flank base with carved feature of skeleton holding hour-glass and
arrow with spade and pick to either side; over is motto "finis miseriae mores".
The top has primitive flying angels supporting crown over skull. Set below,
sunken segmental arch, spirals and acorn and oak leaves. Central tomb to
"Elizabeth the wife of Matthew Scatcherd of Morley" who died 25th August 1715
aged 84 years. Inscription set within a simple raised surround with arrow-head
corners. Tomb to right to "Jane the wife of Thomas Scatcherd of Morley" who
died 4th September 1691. Has decoratively-carved heart with date and initials.
