II*
From a lawsuit of 1580, the Crown versus Tempest, the ownership of Aldersley can be traced to Tristam Bolling in 1422. The existing farmhouse is indeed timber framed but was encased in coursed gritstone and extended in the latter part of the C17. Two-storeys with large quoins. Stone slate roof with saddlestones and kneelers. The north front has four bays, the left hand one breaking forward. Three- and four-light chamfered mullion windows on splayed reveals. Blind round-headed window to right hand of break on first floor. Circa 1800 squared jamb doorway. East gable end has small two- light chamfered mullion first floor windows and chamfered doorway. The south garden front has three symmetrical bays, with three-light chamfered mullion windows on first floor and five-light on ground floor. Weathered string between storeys. Early C19 gabled stone porch. West gable end has external chimney breast with offsets, stack removed. The timber frame is largely concealed in plaster and walls but would appear to consist of three bays with cross wing. There is a massive ridge post wing through from the kitchen approximately in original centre. Stop chamfered ceiling beams and part of the beams exposed on first floor. Stone steps to first floor. One partly exposed wall part adjacent to stairs on west side. South west ground floor room has late C18 fireplace with basket grate.
